    Orange Chicken Wings

    Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

Is there anything better than finger licking good wings?  How about Orange Chicken Wings that are crispy and gooey but also have a fiery bite? These Orange Chicken Wings check all the boxes.  They are made with a few simple ingredients and baked to perfection!  I used St. Dalfour Orange Marmalade to keep them Whole30 but you can easily swap out peach or apricot spread as well.  Warning...there will not be any leftovers! If you like wings you may also like my Strawberry Chia Jam Balsamic Wings or Buffalo Wings.

    Why You'll Love This Recipe

These Orange Chicken Wings are healthy, super easy and the perfect blend of sweet and spicy that the whole family will love. If you love chicken wings, these orange chicken wings are the recipe for you! The best part is they are Whole30 and Paleo friendly.

    Ingredients You Will Need

Chicken Wings: I like organic chicken wings and Grass Roots Coop is my go to for pasture raised, organic meats. You can use PENNYP for a discount.

Arrowroot Powder: Arrowroot powder, a versatile thickening agent in recipes, serves as an excellent alternative to cornstarch or flour without impacting the flavor of a dish. Additionally, it's worth noting that arrowroot powder and arrowroot flour are interchangeable, allowing you to use either one in your cooking.

Garlic Powder: Using garlic powder over minced garlic is best in this recipe as it easily dissipates into the sauce for a better overall texture.

Ground Cumin: Cumin, with its warm and earthy notes, lends a distinctive aromatic flavor that's quintessential to many Southwest seasoning blends.

Cayenne Pepper: Cayenne Pepper is a moderately hot chili pepper. It has a strong spicy but earthy flavor so use less if you do not like a lot of heat.

Smoked Paprika: Smoked paprika introduces a distinct smoky flavor that complements the other spices, adding depth and a unique taste.

Orange Marmalade: Marmalade is a fruit preserve made from the juice and peel of the citrus fruit. I like St. Dalfour fruit spread.

Lime: Squeezing lime juice into the marmalade adds a burst of freshness to the marmalade sauce.

Green onion: Also known as scallions, green onions impart a mild, onion-like flavor and a touch of freshness.

Avocado oil spray: Is very versatile and has a neutral flavor that can be used for baking, high-heat cooking, sautéing and frying.

    Instructions

Preheat oven: to 375 and line a large baking sheet with parchment.

Pat chicken wings: With paper towels pat chicken wings until they are dry.

Place arrowroot: salt, garlic powder, cumin and cayenne in a zip lock bag, shake well.

Add chicken wings: to zip lock bag and shake well until chicken is well coated.

Place wings: on pan skin side up.

    Spray: with avocado spray oil.

    Sprinkle: with smoked paprika.

    Bake: 30 minutes.

Meanwhile make your sauce: by mixing jam with lime juice (divide to save some for dipping).

Remove wings from oven: and flip them over on the pan.

Brush underside first: with sauce, flip and brush top and leave skin side up on pan.

Return to oven: for 30 minutes more.

    Garnish: with green onions.

    Enjoy!

    Recipe Tips and Tricks

Chicken Wings: If you want crispy, make sure they are patted dry and then coat them in arrowroot powder. This helps dry the fat from the skin resulting in a crispy wing! It is a perfect method for delicious orange chicken wings.

    Recipe Variations

Orange Marmalade: you can use a variation of fruit spreads for this recipe. Peach or Apricot work especially well. Just make sure to pair them with the chicken for orange-like chicken wings flavor.

    Storage Tips

Refrigerator: You can store the Chicken wings in the fridge for 4-5 days when placed in a sealed airtight glass container.

Freezer: You can store the wings can for up to 6 months. These orange chicken wings will still taste delicious!

    FAQs About Orange Chicken Wings

What is the difference between jam, jelly, preserves and spread?

Jam is typically made by smashing the fruit and will have some chunks of fruit and a lot more sugar. Jelly is made from strained fruit juice and will have a smoother consistency. Preserves have large pieces of fruit in it. Spreads are made from 100% fruit with no sugar added and typically sweetened with white grape juice of apple juice and offer the purest fruit flavor.

Can I use chicken thighs instead of wings?

Yes! You absolutely can but I recommend only bone in and skin on for this recipe and you may need to bake a little longer until the chicken reaches 165˚ at its thickest part.

What goes good with Orange Chicken Wings?

I like to make a quick and easy green bean stir fry or cauliflower rice sautéed in sesame oil with green onions and some ginger added, both of which complement the delicious orange chicken wings.
