air fryer teriyaki chicken on cutting board

Air Fryer Teriyaki Chicken

No ratings yet
This air fryer teriyaki chicken is such a flavorful dish featuring tender, juicy chicken coated in a sticky, sweet-and-savory glaze. This whole chicken, made in the air fryer, caramelizes the teriyaki sauce, resulting in a slightly charred, crispy skin similar to grilling.

Ingredients

  • 4 lb Whole chicken I like Grass Roots Coop
  • 1/2 cup Teriyaki coconut aminos
  • 1 Tbsp Sesame oil
  • 1 Tbsp Ginger grated
  • 1 Tbsp Garlic grated
  • 1 Tbsp Rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp Chinese five spice I like Primal Palate
  • 1 tsp Sesame seeds garnish
  • 1 whole Lime cut in wedges for serving

Method

  1. Whisk the sauce ingredients in a small bowl.
  2. Wearing rubber gloves, carefully lift the chicken skin on both sides of the bird. Pat dry with paper towels.
  3. Brush the marinade under and over the skin of the entire chicken. Do not discard the remaining sauce.
  4. Cover the chicken and let marinate in the fridge for several hours or overnight for optimal flavor.
  5. Place the chicken breast side down in your air fryer set at 375 degrees and cook for 30 minutes.
  6. Carefully flip the chicken and brush the remaining marinade over the chicken and cook for another 25 minutes. (The skin does get a charred coloring from the sweet sauce but it does not taste burnt.)
  7. Rest the chicken for 10-15 minutes before cutting to allow the juices to redistribute.
  8. Serve with lime wedges for a splash of citrus and garnish with sesame seeds if desired.
  9. Enjoy!
