    Carne Asada

    Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

This Carne Asada recipe is probably my favorite way to enjoy steak! The flavors are so incredible and the steak just melts in your mouth! If you love Chipotle's Carne Asada bowl you can now make your own healthy version at home. The secret here is to let that meat marinate over night in this incredibly easy marinade! I grilled the meat but you can pan sear it as well. These Steak and Shrimp Kabobs are another family fave as well as this Southwest Steak Salad.

    Why You'll Love This Recipe

Grilling is a quick and easy way to enjoy a juicy, melt in your mouth steak. It is hearty and delicious and can be eaten right off the grill or turned into an amazing salad, with carne asada, for a complete meal the entire family will devour!

    Ingredients You Will Need

Flank steak: is generally thicker and leaner while skirt steak is generally thinner and fattier and has more marbling. Either will work well in this carne asada recipe. I love Grass Roots Coop for all of their meats. You can use PENNYP to save 15%.

Red onion: adds a crunchy texture and bold flavor, elevating salads with its zesty kick.

Garlic: adds a savory note that enhances the dish with its bold and aromatic flavor.

Adobe seasoning: is a dry spice blend that adds a savory, garlicky and oregano-forward flavor to various dishes.

Chili powder: is a spice blend of dried chili peppers and other spices like cumin, garlic powder and oregano.

Cumin: is known for its warm and earthy flavor that is derived from the dried seeds of the Cuminum Cyminum plant.

Oregano: is an intensely flavored herb, ground oregano brings a peppery bite and a slightly sweet, earthy aroma to the dish.

Salt and black pepper: salt enhances the overall flavor of the dish and ground black pepper adds a gentle heat. Note: do not add extra salt if your Adobe seasoning has salt in it.

Avocado oil: is extracted from the pulp of the avocado. It is delicious and nutritious and easy to use.

    Instructions

Combine all ingredients except steak: in a blender till smooth, adding water as needed to make it marinade consistency for your carne asada.

Marinate: the steak at least 4 hours or overnight.

Grill: the steak till it reads 145˚ at its thickest part for medium rare.

Cover with foil: and allow the steak to rest 10 minutes so the juices can redistribute.

Cut the steak: into slices or bite sized pieces for the carne asada bowls.

    Enjoy!

    Recipe Tips and Tricks

Marinate longer: for the best flavor and juiciness of the carne asada.

Double this recipe: as the leftovers are so good over salads for lunches the next day!

    Recipe Variations

Skirt steak: is a wonderful alternative for flank steak when preparing carne asada.

    Storage Tips

This Carne Asada can be refrigerated for 3-4 days in an airtight glass container. It freezes well for up to 6 months.

    FAQs About Carne Asada

Why is my Carne Asada so tough?

If you cut the meat parallel to the grain you will end up with long muscle fibers AKA chewy, rubbery tough meat. So be sure to cut against the grain.

Should you refrigerate meat while marinating?

Yes, meat should always be refrigerated while marinating to prevent bacterial growth.

Is it better to marinate or dry rub flank steak?

A marinade flavors the steak more intensely than a dry rub.
