Why You’ll Love This Recipe

It is sweet with zero refined sugars: The apple cinnamon fruit spread adds the perfect amount of sweetness without any added refined sugars, making the perfect apple cinnamon compote delightful and guilt-free.

Perfect with pork: You know the old saying “pork chops and applesauce” well this Apple Cinnamon Compote is an elegant way to serve apples having so much flavor and texture that elevates any pork whether its a roasted pork loin, seared pork steak or pork chops.

Minimal ingredients: Having only 5 ingredients plus a few spices and comes together quickly. You’ll need apples for the best apple cinnamon compote results.

Ingredients You Will Need

Granny Smith Apples: Granny Smith apples have a light green skin and are firm and juicy. The have a tart, acidic like flavor and my apple of choice for this recipe as they do not brown quickly once cut.

Shallot: Shallots are a type of onion that are a member of the allium family. Closely related to garlic, chives and onions. Having a mild, savory flavor with garlic undertones that complements apple cinnamon flavors.

Ghee: Incorporating ghee into this sauce adds a rich, nutty flavor. Ghee is clarified – meaning impurities have been removed, resulting in a pure and clear form of butterfat with lower lactose content than butter.

Lemon: Lemon juice adds a fresh, bright, and tangy element, which can help balance the richness of the other ingredients.

Apple Cinnamon Fruit Spread: My favorite is St. Dalfour but any sugar free apple spread or jam will work in crafting the ideal apple cinnamon compote.

Ground Ginger: Ground ginger adds a warm and aromatic flavor, enhancing the overall taste profile of the dish.

Ground Nutmeg: Ground nutmeg adds a distinctive warm, sweet-spicy flavor.

Ground Allspice: Ground allspice adds a depth of flavor to so many dishes and it has a savory-sweet flavor.

Salt: Elevates the overall flavor of any dish. Always salt in moderation in accordance with your dietary preferences, even in apple cinnamon compote.

Prepare your apples: Peel, core and dice your apples as uniformly as possible for a perfect apple cinnamon compote experience.

Dice the shallot: Peel and dice the shallot finely.

Prepare the lemon: Juice the lemon being sure to remove any pits that may fall into the bowl while juicing.

Prepare the skillet: Melt your ghee in a large skillet.

Cook the shallot: Add the shallot and cook about 2 minutes.

Add remaining ingredients: Add the apples, lemon juice, fruit spread and spice and stir to combine. Now your apple cinnamon compote is almost ready.
